What is the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities?

The CPRD is an international agreement. Its purpose is to make sure disabled people are treated with dignity and respect and have the same rights as everybody else. It does not give disabled people new rights. Instead, the CRPD confirms and sets out what countries need to do to make rights real for a particular group,

in this case, disabled people. Governments that have ratified the CRPD have a duty to work towards a more inclusive society by making their policies and laws align with what the CRPD says.
