A parent treaty is one of the 10 main human rights treaties. For example, the CRPD is the parent treaty to the CRPD-OP.

A treaty is a written agreement or promise between two or more parties who agree to follow what the treaty sets out once it has been formally approved by them.

In this Guide it means a human rights treaty.

To support the complaint because it is seen to be true.

An abuse or breaking of something. In this document it means abusing human rights by not following or ignoring what has been set out in the CRPD. If a country ratifies a human rights convention it is making a promise to follow what is set out in the convention.
